With waving drivers operating classy looking rides, it's hard to have not dreamed of owning your own swanky Cadillac. With those thoughts, did you ever wonder how the car brand became so popular and where it got its start?

Take a look at the history involving Cadillacs and how this incredible make of cars came to be, where they're made, and the features that have made them memory worthy.

History of Cadillac

On August 27, 1902, Henry Leland took claim to what was once Henry Ford's pride and joy, only to create the Cadillac Automobile Company in Detroit. As the company began, they first produced Cadillac engines at Leland and Faulconer, an engineering factory. These early models carried the body of a Ford design and the engine of Leland's, selling over 1000 Cadillacs in 1903 at the New York Auto Show.

By 1904, with great success unfolding, Leland and his son were running the operations of the business on a day to day basis. In 1905, the business had gotten so busy they decided to pair the operations, combining them into one and renaming it Cadillac Motor Car Company. This allowed the company to assemble the vehicles in one convenient location, further increasing production and developing Cadillac models.

When 1909 rolled around, Cadillac Motor Car Company sold its award-winning business to General Motors, which remains as the parent company in 2020.

So Where Was My Cadillac Made?

Cadillacs are only made in four locations, two factories in Michigan, one in Kentucky, and one in Arlington, Texas. So, chances are, if you're curious to where your Cadillac was built it's at one of these four locations.

  • The Arlington Assembly Plant opened in 1953 and primarily Cadillac Escalade SUV, and Escalade EXT SUV.
  • In Bowling, Green Kentucky, they build the Cadillac XLR sports car.
  • Both Michigan locations build the Cadillac DTS models and Cadillac's most popular selection, the Sedans.
Past Cadillac models may have been built at one of GM's other factories, but vehicles built from 2010 or later have been crafted at one of the remaining four that are reserved for Cadillacs specifically.

Hot Cadillac Features

In time Cadillacs have been developed to fit the day and age. GM has made tweaks here and there, updating and upgrading everything from comfort to body design to luxury and technology. One thing is certain, Cadillacs still have that essence of opulence they had back in the early 1900s.

With new designs coming out almost years, a few of the updates you can expect to enjoy with your purchase of a new Cadillac are as follows:

Bluetooth Connectivity

Worry less about having to jeopardize your ability to pay attention to the road and connect your phone directly to your vehicle. This allows you to answer phone calls, respond to text vocally, and much more while driving down busy streets.

Infotainment

Cadillac's built in system allows you to have full control of your audio system, navigation, and much more. With a crystal clear touch screen and voice activation, changing stations or getting directions has never been easier. You can utilize Apple CarPlay or Android Auto with little to no hassle.

Memory Seats

Sit back and relax as you drive through the city. Cadillac's memory seats are electronically controlled to help you choose your preferred position. Record up to two positions for moments you may swap drivers, and press and hold a button to record your settings so that you can easily adjust your seating at any given time.

Climate Controls

With individual controls, you can separate airflow throughout the vehicle. Whether you're a little more hot-natured than your passengers or those in the rear seats feel like defrosting after a cold day, separate buttons allow everyone to enjoy their preferred temperature the whole ride.

You can also easily change the direction of airflow with the quick click of a button, helping distribute air evenly throughout your Cadillac.

Wireless Charging

There's no need for clutter or messy wires with Cadillac's wireless charging station. Simply place your phone over the battery icon and watch as it lights up to charge.

Liftgate + Powertrunk

For moments when your hands are too busy and you wish you had four, equipped Cadillacs come with a hands free power liftgate. Simply move your foot in a kicking motion beneath your bumper and back up as your liftgate automatically opens. Once you've finished loading up you can make the same swift kicking motion to close it back.
