Founded in 1902 in Detroit, Michigan, Cadillac has been manufacturing American-made luxury cars that push the envelope for over 115 years. Cadillac was actually the second automotive brand ever founded worldwide, following fellow GM brand, Buick. Over the last 115 years, Cadillac has made great strides to continue innovating in the world of automotive technology.

One area where Cadillac made their mark on the automotive industry was in terms of speed. In fact, they continue to make improvements to power and speed, and in 2015, they released their fastest car yet. Here are some of the fastest vehicles that decorate the past and present of the Cadillac story.

CTS-V Sedan

The fastest and most powerful Cadillac ever released, the CTS-V sedan was released in 2015. With a 640 hp supercharged V-8, the car is able to go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds and can reach a top speed of 200 mph. This puts it at only one-tenth of a second slower than the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, and significantly faster than the BMW M5.

The 2015 model is the third generation of this model, originally launched in 2004. Much like other V-model Cadillacs, the CTS-V sedan is a high-performance version of the base model that's loaded with technology straight from the racetrack. Further, the aerodynamics, stiffer chassis, and cooling systems that help race cars keep their line around corners are present in the CTS-V, along with an 8-speed automatic transmission and four drive modes.

As far as Sarasota preowned cars, this is one of the fastest choices on the market.

XLR-V

If you were looking for a more luxurious version of a Corvette between 2003 and 2009, you probably looked into getting an XLR-V. With the same platform as the Corvette C6 but the added luxury of a Cadillac, the XLR-V was the fastest of the fastest of the first generation of V-Series Cadillacs. The supercharged V-8, equipped with 440 hp, allowed the XLR-V to reach 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. The main competitor of the XLR-V, the Mercedes-Benz SL550, simply couldn't keep up.

CT6-V Blackwing

Falling just short of the CTS-V's zero-to-60 mph rate of acceleration, the CT6-V Blackwing is the apex of Cadillac's 2020 lineup. The Blackwing engine, a 550 hp twin-turbocharged V-8, will only be available in 600 2020 CT6 sedans, and will allow the sedan to go from zero to 60 in 3.8 seconds.

CTS-V Wagon

A car featuring both speed and practicality, the CTS-V wagon can go from zero to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, thanks to its supercharged V8 packed with 556 hp. The wagon features a stick shift to appeal to enthusiasts, and was faster than the BMW M4, its main competitor in 2014.

ATS-V Sedan

Faster than the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and the modern M3, the ATS-V is equipped with a twin-turbocharged V-6. With a zero-to-60 mph time of 3.7 seconds, the 2016 model featured a chassis that lefts reviewers pleased as punch; so pleased, in fact, that the speed and engine were nearly forgotten about.

CT4-V Sedan

Intended to replace the ATS-V sedan, the not-yet-released CT4-V sedan, expected to be available to consumers sometime in the early half of this year, will have less output power than the ATS-V at 325 horsepower coming from a 2.7-liter, ten-speed automatic transmission. Despite its decreased power, it is still a highly anticipated and powerful, snappy vehicle.
