The world is shifting from the use of fossil fuels to greener alternatives. The car industry, which accounts for a large portion of fossil fuel consumption, is adapting to this shift by switching to electric vehicles. General Motors (GM) is one of the latest car manufacturers to make the switch, and it is about to reveal its first all-electric sedan this summer: the Cadillac Celestiq. Anticipation has been growing around this planned reveal.
Here is a comprehensive overview of what to expect from the launch and, most importantly, GM's flagship EV sedan.
When & Where?
GM has been very secretive about its new electric sedan. News about GM's shift to electric vehicles has been public for years. However, the sedan has been shown publicly only once during GM's EV Day event in 2020. However, only a handful of reporters saw the EV, and their images have been generic at best.
GM is now ready to introduce its first EV sedan to the world, fortunately. The Cadillac Celestiq will be revealed this summer as a flagship vehicle. The reveal was initially scheduled for April, but it has been pushed to either July or August.
Unfortunately, GM has not released finer details about the scheduled event. To this end, it is still unknown exactly when and where the event will take place. However, this may change in a few months.
A Luxurious, All-Electric Sedan
GM has touted the Cadillac Celestiq as an ultra-luxury, all-electric car that will give other EVs a run for their money. The sedan features a sleek and futuristic appearance, but GM has not released finer details about what makes it exceptionally luxurious.
However, several known features give an insight into this EV sedan's luxury appeal. For example, the EV is hand-made from scratch, making it unique in many aspects. The spacious sedan has cutting-edge infotainment and communications technology. Bottom line: GM promises that the Cadillac Celestiq will be fun and easy to use, and its luxury appeal will turn heads.
Performance Details
GM has not shared enough specs about the Cadillac Celestiq EV's performance, unfortunately. However, it is public knowledge that this all-electric sedan will feature all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering. This suggests that the car will pack impressive speeds and precision control. Finer details about the EV's performance will be released at the highly anticipated event.
Battery Life

An Ultium battery pack will power the Cadillac Celestiq. Critics have said that this battery could be large enough to store up to 100 kWh of electricity. Consequently, the Cadillac Celestiq may offer a driving range of up to 300 miles on a single charge.
A 300-mile driving range on a single charge is satisfactory based on the current standards. However, GM may incorporate an even larger and more powerful before officially launching the EV sedan for sale. This will depend on advances made in EV battery technology before the official launch. To this end, GM's EV sedan may compete with the likes of the Model S or the Lucid Air sedans, which offer 402 miles and 517 miles on a single charge, respectively.
Infotainment Details About This All-Electric Sedan
Many car manufacturers are increasing their focus on the digital and technological aspects of their vehicles. To this end, more flagship vehicles across the board are featuring bigger and better infotainment systems. General Motors is not an exception, and it hopes to make a statement with its new EV sedan's sleek infotainment system.
Cadillac Celestiq's infotainment covers the whole dashboard, stretching from one end to the other. The infotainment system's LED touchscreen measures more than 33 inches, which is three times bigger than the standard 10.3 inches. The curved screen features the latest video technology for pristine clarity.
The sedan also features LED touchscreens for passengers. These screens are embedded on the back of the front seats and positioned directly in front of the backseat passengers. They offer a wide range of features, including watching videos and browsing the internet. Passengers can also control the main infotainment system from their screen with the necessary admin authorization.
This all-electric sedan's infotainment system is impressive and a pace-setter. However, there are concerns that the large screen may be distracting to the driver.
Interior Design & Comfort
GM promises that the Cadillac Celestiq will feature a spacious and comfortable interior. The company has shared some details of what to expect.
The sedan will feature four bucket seats for starters, ensuring that the driver and each passenger has enough space for a comfortable ride. The bucket seats contain premium materials, including genuine leather, real metal accents, and open-pore wood, among others.
Additionally, this EV sedan will feature a panoramic glass roof with more features than the industry standard. The most notable feature about this roof is its adjustable transparency setting. To this end, users can switch to opaque, translucent, and transparent modes.
Notably, the glass roof is divided into four quadrants covering each set, and each passenger can adjust their quadrant's settings independently (without affecting the whole roof). It is also worth noting that the glass will adopt a color that matches the interior's general color and ambiance.
This EV's interior is impressive. To this end, critics have described the Cadillac Celestiq as a hatchback with plenty of space for passengers and cargo.
Safety & Driver-Assistance
Safety on the road is a growing concern, and GM promises to ensure its users' safety by offering a range of driver assistance and safety features. The car manufacturer has not provided specific details, but it has mentioned that the EV sedan will feature its Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving technology. Expect the sedan to feature other standard safety features, including automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, lane-departure warning, and standard adaptive cruise control.
