Cadillac has long been synonymous with luxury and style. Staying true to its roots, the automaker recently debuted its concept for a very modern, but luxurious, fully electric sedan set to sell around 2022. Looking for an eye-catching ride? Here's what you need to know about the all-new Cadillac Celestiq.

Cadillac Entering the New Era at General Motors

With high quality, stylish electric vehicles taking up a major space in the marketplace, General Motors recently announced plans to make the Cadillac brand its lead electric vehicle division. The first vehicle in its arsenal is the Lyriq, a midsize crossover that was initially set for release in 2020, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, production shifted to further down the road.

The flagship of Cadillac's new production line is the Celestiq, a four-door sedan set to compete with electric-powered vehicles already on the marketplace and paving the way for a new Cadillac brand. The Celestiq was shown to select media and investors at a sought after event held in early 2020. Information about the new EV trickled out after its conclusion.

What to Expect

The exterior of the Celestiq is said to be very long and quite wide which means that a comfortable back seat with plenty of leg room is expected. It's been noted that the design is similar to that of the 2016 Cadillac Escala concept but with a Lyriq front end. There aren't any door handles or side mirrors, upping the vehicle's modern look and sleek design. The car is said to feature a tinted sloping roof line that extends all the way to the hatch.

The vehicle's electric batteries are hidden under the floor and are expected to be the highest ranging and fastest charging of the GM lot. The interior was made for luxury. The front display lays almost end to end on the dash, making for an impressive and cutting edge design. Since the Celestiq is said to be mainly hand-built, the price is going to showcase that. Estimated at around $200,000, the cost will certainly vary depending upon customization and limited production.

While information about the interior is very limited, since it's assumed to replicate the Escala, it's thought that a thick console will separate the two back seats and include screens on the back of the front seats.

The Power

When GM announced its line of electric vehicles, the power behind it was touted as "highly flexible and scalable." The platform, called BEV3 (Battery Electric Vehicle 3) is said to be a skateboard-like design with the batteries held between the wheelbase. The design is unique as it can support power from different models: cars, trucks, SUVs, and crossovers.

The battery pack, called Ultium, is geared to go 400+ miles and 0-60 mph in roughly 3 seconds. GM is hoping this new set of electric vehicles and new technology will help transform their Cadillac line and compete against the likes of Tesla and Audi.
