Cadillac's Electric Crossover

In January of 2019, Cadillac announced that it's working to deliver a fully electric crossover vehicle. This follows on the heels of GM's announcement that Cadillac would lead the way in an all-electric future for the company, with plans to be nearly fully electric by 2030. Though there is no official release date for the new Cadillac EV, it is predicted to be released in 2022. This model will be competing with other luxury EV models like the Jaguar I-Pace, the Audi e-Tron, and the Mercedes-Benz EQ. However, Cadillac's iconic brand is likely to give it a boost over competitors.

The first look at this new vehicle hit the scenes at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show. It would be the first electric vehicle offered by General Motors, but as is tradition, automaker's luxury brands usually are the first to deliver new technology, with other brands following behind. The more advanced components of this new vehicle, like the drive units and the battery cells, are being designed and developed to provide maximum usability and will be used throughout GM's new electric product line. These electric vehicles can be configured in front-wheel, rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, and the length of the battery life is still yet to be determined, but will most likely depend on customer preferences.

What Can We Expect From Cadillac In The Future?

While it's still tough to predict which direction Cadillac will take in the coming years, we can expect the future to be electric! Cadillac and the rest of GM's fleet will likely be announcing more upcoming electric models in the coming months. Cadillac has always been a leader in both luxury and innovation, and it seems unlikely that this will change anytime soon.

Cadillac tested the EV waters with the Cadillac ELR hybrid, which was produced between 2014 and 2016. Though it wasn't a success, it showed that the Cadillac brand was dedicated to being an industry leader in all areas of vehicle production.

As the entire automobile industry moves towards creating electric vehicles that fit our needs, Cadillac continues to deliver some of the most stunning vehicles on the market. Consumers reacted to Cadillac's announcement with excitement - crossover vehicles are extremely popular right now. And though it's still a few years in the making, Cadillac hopes to keep the excitement high.
