Just What Is a Cadillac Concept Car?
A Cadillac concept car is a prototype of a model Cadillac designers are working on for the not-too-distant future. A concept car reveals a forward-thinking design that includes the luxury with which Cadillac drivers are accustom. Accompanying that are updates under the hood, inside the cabin, and outside detailing, along with safety features for what the next decade, or two, may bring.
Concept cars go through many updates. They are not made for sale, but sometimes may be seen at motor shows so the designers and General Motors can see how customers react. When a design has undergone several evaluations for regulations, safety, practicality, and cost, the concept can move forward. Then a functional production-intent vehicle, or show car, is made, revealing a vehicle that may be available for purchase in upcoming years.
Cadillac's Lyriq
The Lyriq is one of those models currently transforming from its drawing board concept to an actual physical show car. Electric is the future and the Lyriq combines that future with the multi-purpose of an SUV. In today's popular crossover Cadillac XT5, owners travel about 40 miles a day on electrical charge. However, testing reveals the future Lyriq is expected to travel up to 300 miles on one full charge, making travel up and down the Gulf Coast or across the state, simple and easy.
Some of the variety of features and options of the Lyriq shown on the production model include:
- Super Cruise™ - a true hands-free, driver-assist cruise control for travel on the now 200,000 miles of compatible highways around the US including quite a bit of travel around the state of Florida.
- AKG Studio 19-speaker sound system – a Cadillac exclusive with speakers located throughout the vehicle for optimum sound for passengers seated anywhere within the vehicle.
- Augmented Reality head-up display – featuring easier to view close-up displays for speed and direction, with signal signs and alerts further back on the dash, all within easy visual range while keeping eyes on the road.
- Comfort and luxury – with leather seating and Moon Glow aluminum accents accompanied with an LED display within comfortable reach for the driver.
And, although it is an SUV, the Lyriq's Altium battery is integrated in a way that lowers the center of gravity. The Escala
Escala, in Spanish, means scale, and that is what the Cadillac Escala represents with a recognizable coupe silhouette with classic proportions. Cashmere, hand-sewn leather, and walnut adorn the interior with the hand-finishing only Cadillac can offer.
Cadillac calls it "a new measure for expressive design." And while the Escala is unmistakably Cadillac it offers a bold new look. The head of Cadillac's design team, Andrew Smith, says, "It was an opportunity for us to break the rules a bit, exactly what Cadillac should do from time to time."
Armed for the hands-free future of driving, the Escala design features voice control and accepts gesture commands. And with a tip-of-the-hat to Cadillac's past, designers bring back its ornament from the 1930s, the Flying Goddess, for access to its future infotainment systems offered throughout this vehicle.
Cadillac's Elmiraj
Welcome back performance driving at its best with a new streamlined design for Cadillac's Elmiraj. Based on the popular El Dorado of yesteryear, the Elmiraj features a two-door design for the future with comfortable seating for four. You will love driving the road in this coupe with its clean body lines, elongated wheelbase, and the familiarity of the El Dorado's wide-swinging doors. The Elmiraj exudes luxury, confidence, and reliability.
With a body designed for speed and an engine designed for performance, the Elmiraj interior offers camel leather seating and touches of Brazilian Rosewood originally utilized in top-of-the-line wooden furniture. This coupe is designed to please the driver and the passengers.
The Ciel
Imagine a drive along the shore, into the mountains, or along the countryside with the top down for enjoying the scenery and the air. Welcome a new take in convertibles. Ciel is French for the sky, and that is what this new concept car wants to welcome in. "We've created a Cadillac that lets you touch the sky," says Ciel's lead interior designer, Gael Buzyn. This concept offers even more lavish comfort from the world's highest luxury-oriented car manufacturer while offering privacy not often found with the top down.
The Ciel's interior is uncluttered while accented by kiln-dried olive wood, and a brushed aluminum instrument panel. Comfortable leather seating for four finishes off the sumptuous interior shown off through entrance in its wide rear-hinged doors.
